Medical and cosmetic skincare in the Comox Valley
At Coastal Dermatology and Medical Aesthetics, we provide a wide array of state-of-the-art treatments that combine the latest technologies with advances in dermatological medicine to help you achieve healthy, radiant and more youthful-looking skin.
We only perform medical and cosmetic procedures that are backed up by peer-reviewed scientific literature, and we believe that the results experienced by so many of our satisfied clients are testament to their efficacy.
Here are some of our most common treatments:
Botox & Dysport
Botox and Dysport works to reduce muscle activity by blocking nerve impulses that cause the muscle to contract. Used in medicine for more than 30 years, Botox, Dysport and neuromodulators help to treat a variety of conditions such as muscle spasms, strabismus (crossed eyes,) excessive sweating, soften or eliminate wrinkles on the forehead, crow’s feet, frown lines and lines around the mouth.
Dermal fillers are used to plump up deep wrinkles and nasolabial folds on the face. They can add volume to sunken areas such as temples, cheeks and tear troughs, and can also be used for lip augmentation. Results typically last nine to twelve months. There are many different types of fillers on the market that are used to treat various areas on the face and types of wrinkles. Our physicians are experts at selecting the right dermal filler for you.
CoolSculpting is a non-surgical procedure that selectively reduces unwanted fat using a patented cooling technology. The procedure works by gently cooling targeted fat cells in the body to induce a natural, controlled and permanent elimination of fat cells without affecting surrounding tissue. Most clients start to see results in just a few weeks following treatment, with the most dramatic results occurring over a period of one to three months. View Video
IPL (Intensified Pulsed Light)
Intensified Pulsed Light (IPL) / Photorejuvenation is a state-of-the-art treatment for a wide range of skin conditions and imperfections — you may also know them as “photofacials.” This technology is used to treat skin conditions such as rosacea, broken capillaries, redness, spider veins, sun damage, enlarged pores, fine lines, and skin texture issues.
Hydrafacial is a non-invasive, non-laser hydradermabrasion treatment that can improve your skin’s tone, elasticity and hydration and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in as little as 30 minutes. The treatment is quite soothing and is sometime described as like having a cool paintbrush moving slowly over the skin. You’ll leave with clearer skin that feels moisturized, rejuvenated and radiant.
Laser Hair Removal
Our advanced laser technologies are effective at removing unwanted hair of all varieties from all skin types. The CoolGlide laser equipment we use at Coastal Dermatology and Medical Aesthetics also cools the skin during the procedure, resulting in minimal discomfort and no need for anesthetic.
Laser Genesis uses a non-invasive, uniquely engineered laser to effect overall skin health and improvement and treat specific skin conditions. It can also be effectively used to treat toenail fungus. A Laser Genesis treatment is an extremely relaxing and comfortable way to achieve a number of benefits with no downtime whatsoever.
Plantar Wart Treatment
Our technology can effectively treat all warts that are fed by blood vessels, most typically plantar warts. Pulses of energy cause blood within wart-feeding vessels to coagulate, destroying the surrounding tissue, redirecting blood flow to healthier veins and “starving” the wart.
The Venus Viva™ is the ultimate solution for facial rejuvenation and the latest Venus Concept product to hit the market. The Venus Viva™ results in fresher, younger-looking skin by delivering energy deep into the dermis, generating heat and causing the remodelling of collagen and regeneration of tissue.
Rhinophyma is a rare skin disorder characterized by a large, red, bumpy nose. It’s sometimes called “bulbous nose” or “phymatous rosacea.” The exact cause is unknown, but it typically occurs in very severe cases of rosacea, a common, chronic inflammatory skin condition. Rhinophyma can be treated with medication, laser and, in severe cases, surgery. We can help you decide which treatment option is best for you.
Moles & Other Skin Lesions
Dr. Stephen Burgess has training in various surgical techniques and aftercare to address a wide range of cosmetically unacceptable lesions with minimal to no scarring. Referral from your primary care provider is recommended for accurate diagnosis prior to removal. Visits are covered by MSP.
Laser Tattoo & Hyperpigmentation Removal
Q-Switched lasers can shatter tiny fragments of pigmentation or ink, stimulate collagen production or kill fungus. Because their contact with the skin is less than other lasers, Q-Switched lasers are known for not damaging surrounding tissue and causing unwanted side effects.
Blue Light Therapy
Blue light therapy can be effectively used for the treatment of acne that has not responded to other treatments or can be used as an addition to current treatment. A form of phototherapy, it uses a blue wavelength of light to reduce inflammation of the skin. This treatment has no known adverse effects. Visit the Blu-U website.
Narrow Band UVB
Phototherapy or light therapy, involves exposing the skin to ultraviolet light on a regular basis and under medical supervision. Treatments are done in a doctor’s office. The key to success with light therapy is consistency.
Cryotherapy / Chemical Therapy
Cryotherapy / chemical therapy is the removal of skin lesions such as moles, skin tags and warts by freezing. Liquid nitrogen is applied to the lesion, which freezes tissue and results in the lesion-free healing of the affected area. Sometimes alternative chemicals may be used for similar or better results depending on the type of lesion.
