Sculptra® Aesthetic in the Comox Valley

Restore Facial Volume & Rebuild Natural Collagen From Within

Are you noticing a loss of facial volume, hollow cheeks, or sagging skin that makes you look tired? Unlike traditional dermal fillers that temporarily camouflage these issues, Sculptra® Aesthetic works deeply within the skin to correct the underlying cause of facial aging.

At Coastal Dermatology & Medical Aesthetics in downtown Courtenay, we offer this advanced, physician-supervised collagen treatment to help patients across the Comox Valley and Vancouver Island achieve gradual, incredibly natural-looking facial rejuvenation.

What is Sculptra and How Does It Work?

Sculptra is an injectable biostimulator made from Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible, biodegradable synthetic material that has been used safely in medical devices for decades.

Traditional dermal fillers utilize hyaluronic acid to instantly gel-cushion and “fill” a specific wrinkle or fold. Sculptra works entirely differently:

  • Micro-Particle Injection: Sculptra is precisely injected into the deep dermis or sub-dermis.
  • Collagen Stimulation: The PLLA micro-particles form a structural scaffold that naturally triggers your body’s own fibroblasts to produce fresh, new collagen.
  • Gradual Volume Restoration: Over the course of a few months, the PLLA is naturally absorbed by your body, leaving behind a reinforced, dense network of your own natural collagen strands.

The result is a gradual increase in facial volume, improved skin thickness, and a lifted, more youthful facial contour.

What Areas Can Be Treated with Sculptra?

Sculptra is exceptionally effective at treating large zones of the face where age-related volume loss and structural sagging occur. It is commonly used to treat:

  • Hollow Cheeks: Restores a soft, youthful fullness to sunken or deflated cheek areas.
  • Sunken Temples: Fills in temporal hollowing, which can subtly lift the outer brow line.
  • Deep Nasolabial Folds: Softens the deep “smile lines” running from the nose to the corners of the mouth.
  • Marionette Lines & Pre-Jowl Sulcus: Firms up the jawline and minimizes the folds at the corners of the chin.
  • Overall Skin Laxity: Thickens thin, crepey skin across the lower face for improved elasticity.

Why Choose Coastal Dermatology for Sculptra?

Because Sculptra depends on a gradual biological response and precise anatomical placement, it demands an expert injector with an advanced understanding of facial structures.

  • Physician-Supervised Medical Clinic: In strict alignment with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, all injectable procedures at our clinic are administered by our highly trained physician, Dr. Stephen Burgess, or a certified medical professional operating under his direct guidance.
  • The “Invisible Filler” Mastery: Sculptra results are entirely your own. There is no risk of looking “over-filled” or artificial, as the changes develop gradually over several months.
  • Informed, Inclusive Care: We provide an inclusive, gender-neutral space where every treatment plan is tailored to your unique anatomy, lifestyle, and goals.

What to Expect: Frequently Asked Questions

What is the recovery time after a Sculptra treatment?

There is minimal downtime required after a Sculptra session. Most patients can return to work and their normal daily routine immediately. You may experience mild swelling, redness, or tenderness at the injection sites, which generally resolves in a few days.

💡 The Rule of 5s: Following your treatment, you will be instructed to massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, 5 times a day, for 5 days. This ensures the Sculptra particles are evenly distributed throughout the tissue for a completely smooth, natural result.

How many sessions do I need and when will I see results?

Because Sculptra relies on your body building its own tissue, results are not instant. You will see temporary fullness from the sterile water mixture for 24–48 hours, which then subsides. Your real results will emerge dynamically over 4 to 6 weeks.

Most patients require a series of 2 to 3 treatment sessions, spaced about 4 to 6 weeks apart, to build a strong, long-lasting collagen foundation.

How long do the results of Sculptra last?

Sculptra is highly celebrated for its longevity. While traditional fillers typically last 6 to 12 months, the natural collagen network built by Sculptra can keep your face looking beautifully volumized and youthful for up to 2 years or longer.
